Mindfulness Yoga
My philosophy of Yoga
Union is the state where consciousness is simply moment to moment awareness, as Body, Mind and Senses, not identified with a separate sense of a self. Our practice is to live from this state of wholeness.
We use the techniques of yoga in order to notice how nature manifests consciously as our body/mind. Our willingness to notice brings the body/mind into focus, into the present. Our yoga practice is to awaken, not to perfect technique and not to achieve experiences. Our intention is to fall in love with awareness, learning to trust it.
Yoga is one way to support us having trust and confidence, in our natural condition of conscious, receptive, awareness. The practice is simply to fall in love with this body-mind, with this living moment just as it is.
From this perspective I believe that what people need is not the possession of some external object for fulfilment, nor some internal ideal. Rather, to strive for some goal worthy of their effort, what more than Presence(ing), this very moment?
The substance of meaning and fulfilment is only and always right here and right now! This is it! Even as hope springs eternal, it arises in this moment not in the future. All of our needs, dreams and aspirations are realised in the moment to moment process of our lives. We can’t get our life wrong but we can be more conscious, which creates the momentum that moves us towards fulfilment and gives meaning to our existence.
Consequently my style of teaching seeks to evoke through the engaged enquiry, of our body our heart and our mind an understanding that perhaps the measure of success or meaning of the practice is not so much about getting my head to my knees or touching my toes.
But that learning to be more fully who you are as a Human Being is the practice and that this is a life long process; you don't have to study all of the teachings or learn sanskrit to understand the true heart or spirit of yoga. Rather, as a practice can we regularly ask our self the questions:
Who am I becoming through this process?
Am I simply abiding in that which is true, whatever “that” is in this moment?
Am I taking responsibility for what I am creating moment to moment?
Am I realising the moment to moment choice of being and becoming the world in which I wish to live?"
Am I whole heartedly embodying the fullness of my humanity, my fundamental goodness?
